  • Home Rule Charter Forum - October 26th

    To give you the opportunity to hear the pros and cons of this issue, both organizations have come together to schedule a Home Rule Charter Forum, open to the public, on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. in the Educational Conference Center on the main campus of Luzerne County Community College in Nanticoke.

Principal speakers scheduled for the forum are Attorney Vito Deluca, Luzerne County Solicitor, and Attorney James J. Haggerty, Chairman of the Forum Study Commission and Mayor of Kingston. Moderator will be Mr. Joseph Rymar, Luzerne County Community College Board of Trustees President.

    All residents of Luzerne County are encouraged to attend this forum and please inform your family and friends of this important event.

  • The Newport Township Community Organization in partnership with Newport Township Fire Department & Little League held its 7th Annual Fall Festival Saturday, October 9th from 10 AM to 5 PM at the Holy Child Grove, Sheatown.

    The objective of this festival was to bring our residents together, current and former, to share our values with those people from other surrounding communities.  This would not have been possible without our supporters. The Newport Township Community Organization gratefully acknowledges the following businesses, organizations and volunteers for making this possible.

The 2010 Great American Cleanup, Fix Up, Beautification Projects runs from March 1st to May 31st.

The Community Pride Event held on April 17th was a great success thanks to the 78 volunteers that gave up their time to cleanup the environment.

Thank You to J.P. Mascaro & Sons, Waste Management and the 28 volunteers who worked 212 hours from April 12th to the 16th at the Big Junk Drop Off.

April 19th to the 23rd illegal dumpsites were cleared.  Thank you to  PennDOT for the quick removal of all the Debris and the inmates from the Luzerne County Work Release Program.
