President, Stephen Phillips called the meeting to order on the above date and time
Secretary, Palmira Miller read the minutes from the previous meeting held April 10, 2007. Linda moved that the minutes be approved as read and placed on file. Carolyn seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.
Treasurer, Steve Masakowski read and presented the treasurers report. · The organization has a total of $5,002.50 in the General Fund, $78.78 petty cash, and $100.00 payables. · The organization has 57 paid 2007 members. Tina made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report as presented and placed on file. Joan seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.
No Bills and Communications to reports:
The 1st Vice President, Russ Sager reports on the 501c3 status: · On Monday the amended Articles of Incorporation were sent to the IRS in San Francisco.
The 2nd Vice President, Tom Kashatus reports: · Membership letters are being sent to people who showed interest in membership. · Members discussed the issues brought to the attention of the Commissioners at their last meeting. · Members discussed having a prison within the Township. · At the Big Junk Drop Off information was brought to the attention of our members that a 19’ deep coal vein was discovered under 40’ of gravel at the rock quarry in Lee. Members discussed the legality of this mining operation. · People still, are not aware that this Community Organization exists. After a discussion, Linda made a motion to sponsor a sign at the Little League Field not to exceed $100 for the 1st year. A question on the floor of size and type. Carol 2nd the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative. Heidi and Linda will chair a committee to design the sign.
Publicity Chairman, John Jarecki reports: 1. Meeting announcement was seen in the Times Leader not in the Citizens' Voice. 2. The Public Forum which will be held May 9th , 7pm at the American Legion in Glen Lyon was discussed. o Flyers will be sent out. A press release should go out to all local TV Stations and both newspapers. 3. Publishing a Voters Guide profiling all 9 candidates was discussed. John made a motion to publish a voter’s guide. Joan seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative. A sample of a letter and form was passed around for members input. All candidates running for Township Commissioner will be asked to fill out a standard form stating their name, date of birth, occupation, education, qualifications, and their answer to one question. Palmira will send the letters to all 9 candidates with a return date of May 4th.
Committee Reports: · Heidi has no report on the license plate covers. · Murph Reports: o It is in the hands of his PR Person. · Palmira Reports: o The Great American Cleanup and Big Junk Drop Off was a great success. Thank you to all the volunteers who gave up their time to work at the recycling center and who picked up litter along the main streets in the Township. Thank you letters will be sent to the pay-load operator, the Fire, Street and Police Departments. About 300 cubic yards were burnt which is equivalent to 6 to 7 dumpsters. The appliances, tin, aluminum, and metal are still being removed for recycling.
Trustee Reports: · Francis stated that Steve M. is doing a good job.
Other Business: Tom passed around a flyer endorsing Czapracki, Wilkes, and Roke. Commissioner Kashatus wishes to go on record stating “He had not seen this flyer until one of our members handed it to him. This flyer said it was endorsed by the Township Commissioners. I AM a Township Commissioner. I did not endorse or was given the opportunity to view this flyer. Also I am very upset that the Community Organization was not recognized for giving over 300 hours in community service to the Township while others were recognized.”
No Unfinished Business
New Business · Members discussed the lack of service in the township office provided by the Manager. · Stephen P. reminded members that in July we will be coming up with our yearly 5 point plan. · The t-shirt we sell should say Newport Township Community Organization.
Good of the Order · The Commissioners meeting is scheduled for May 7th.
Teena made a motion to adjourn the meeting; seconded by Murph, all voted in favor. Meeting adjourned at 8:25 pm.
