President, Stephen Phillips, called the meeting to order on the above date and time.  He then proceeded to follow the order of business.

 

Secretary, Palmira Miller read the minutes from the previous meeting held July 24, 2007.  Carol moved that the minutes be approved as read and placed on file.  Bill seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.

 

Treasurer, Steve Masakowski read the treasurers report.

·          The organization has a total of $4,554.06 in the General Fund, $115.00 cash on hand totaling $4,669.06.

·          The organization has 83 paid and complimentary 2007 memberships.

Mary Margaret made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report as read.  Mary Jo seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.

 

Bills or Communications, Steve M reports:

·          Mary Margaret submitted a bill from three (3) vendors totaling $29.88 for expenses used at the Summer Fun Event.

Mary Jo made a motion to pay the bill.  Sia seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.

·          Carolyn and Palmira submitted bills totaling $29.89 for expenses towards the Fall Festival.

Heidi made a motion to pay the bill.  Mary Jo seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.

 

The 1st Vice President, Russ Sager, not present.

 

The 2nd Vice President, Tom Kashatus reports:

1.        The cleanup at the Newport Center Cemetery is complete.  PennDot picked up the tires.

2.        There should be a follow up in the papers about the Summer Fun Events.

3.        One of our members, Mr. Smocharski is very sick, Tom will visit him tomorrow.

4.        If the Township does not pursue the Equipment Center for a new fire station, we should as a community organization.  It may be given back to Earth Conservancy.

5.        We should make it a rule to go to our advertisers first when purchasing items such as trophies, shirts, sweatshirts, etc.

6.        Our meetings should be held in different areas such as the Wanamie Rec Park, Alden playground or at Guardian Care.

7.        The County Commissioners hold town meetings in different areas.  We should invite them to have it here.

8.        Chili Contest Posters are printed and ready for distribution.

 

Publicity Chairman, John Jarecki reports:

1.        Meeting announcement were seen in the Citizens Voice along with the Fall Festival and Chili Contest articles.

2.        A photo will be taken today to announce the Children’s Art Contest.

3.        In reference to the complaint made by Township Commissioners, that acknowledgement of winners in the Primary election was not published in the Summer Newsletter.  Therefore, they will be published in the Fall Newsletter.

4.        I have a conflict of interest being editor of the Community Organization newsletter and at the same time Chairman of the Renew Newport political committee.  I will handle this by mentioning in the newsletter, after each article I write, that I have the two positions.

 

Committee Reports:

·          Summer Fun Events:  Mary Margaret read and submitted a report which is attached to the minutes.

·          License Plate Frames:  Heidi reports she will attend a class reunion and they will be given out.

·          The Fall Festival:  Carolyn reports and members discuss entertainment alternatives, a car show and kids events. 

No Trustee Report 

Unfinished Business

Stephen P. read and members voted on the order of the 2007 –five (5) point plan.  They are as follows:

1.        Establish the position of a full time Building Code Official.

2.        Strictly and equitably enforce all existing Township Ordinances and upon request make copies available to the citizens of the municipality at no cost.

3.        Open communication and public input on issues having an impact involving the citizens of the community before the Commissioner vote.

4.        Develop a 10 year plan for paving of roads and a 5 year plan for equipment.

5.        In accordance to Ordinance 2 of 1975 appoint Newport Township Recreation Board members. 

No New Business: 

Good of the Order:

·          Paul suggested we invite speakers to our meetings.  Members discussed having speakers such as Mike Dziak from Earth Conservancy, or Mike Hughes on abandoned mines, also holding public forums.

·          Being a 501c3 organization we are duty bound to give back to the same. 

Carol made a motion to adjourn the meeting; seconded by Carolyn, all voted in favor.

 

Meeting adjourned at 7:30 pm.
