President, Stephen Phillips called the meeting to order on the above date and time then proceeded to follow the order of business.

 

Secretary, Palmira Miller read the minutes from the previous meeting held July 25, 2006.  Carolyn moved that the minutes be approved as read and placed on file.  Mary Jo seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.

 

Treasurer, Steve Masakowski read and presented the treasurers report.

·         The organization has a total of $2,988.62 in the FNCB General Fund, $14.37 in the Summer Program, $500.00 in the Fall Festival Reserve, and $89.00 petty cash.

·         The organization has eighty five (85) members, fourteen (14) more than we had last year.

Murph made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report as presented and placed on file.  Bill seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.

 

Bills and Communications report:

·         Ed Bezdziecki sent the rental contract for the use of Holy Child Grove for the Fall Festival.  Balance of $100.00 is due by September 13th.

 

The 1st Vice President, Russ Sager reported:

·         No word on the acceptance or denial of the 501c3 application.

 

The 2nd Vice President, Tom Kashatus reported and members discussed the following:

·         There are ten (10) members on the planning committee and would like one more member to join.

o        Meetings are held the 1st Friday of each month at the Municipal Building, 7:00 pm.

o        Members discussed revitalization of the Township and why Glen Lyon, being accessible to water, sewer, and power, is the best place to start.

·         What plan of action will our Commissioners take about illegal immigrants moving into our Township?  The important word being “Illegal”.

·         Members spoke of the twelve (12) Sexual Predators living in the Township.

·         Members discussed the budget process for the Township.

·         The South Valley Chamber of Commerce Heritage Days will begin August 9th to the 13th.

·         Newport Township Fire Dept. Summer Bash, Poker Run will be held September 9th.  Tom Gernhart, Event Coordinator, asked Carolyn if we wish to sponsor a stand, with all proceeds collected remain with our Organization.  Volunteers are not available for that day.  Carolyn will respond back to decline.

Bob made a motion to donate $100.00 to Newport Fire Department.  Murph seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.  A check will be made out and given to Fire Commissioner Kashatus.

 

Publicity Chairman, John Jarecki reports:

1.       Meeting announcements were published in the Times Leader and the Citizens Voice.

2.       On the Fall Newsletter

o        August 20th articles are due.

o        September 20th for distribution.

 

Committee Reports:

·         Recreation, Murph Fletcher reports:

o        July 31st, Ethnic Dancing - Instructors taught the children to dance.

o        August 8th, photography day at the Rec Park.  Cameras were distributed to the thirty (30) children attending.  Face painting was provided.  Mascots, Tux & Grump arrived on the fire trucks entertaining the children throughout this event.  Our Township Ambulance and Fire Crew were on hand and our Police Officer made his rounds.  A Birthday party was held, cupcakes and juice were served to all. 

o        August 21st, Bike Rodeo – Crocket will be the special guest.

o        Members discussed the poor conditions of the Recreational Park and how to increase the attendance for next year’s events.

Mary Jo made a motion that the Newport Township Community Organization, donate $75.00 to Mary Margaret towards a $25.00 donation to each mascot for their services at the Summer Fun Events.  John F. seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.

·         Fall Festival, Carolyn Phillips reports:

o        Plans are moving forward.

o        Committee members will meet August 10th.

o        John F. will contact Kropiewnicki about a vehicle for the hay ride.

 

There was no Trustees report.

 

No Unfinished Business

 

New Business

·         Members discussed holding events at the GNA High School pool.  Murph spoke to Mr. Perone.  He stated we must first submit a written request to the School Board.

 

Our next meeting is August 22, 2006, at 6:30PM, Knights of Columbus, Glen Lyon.

 

Mary Jo made a motion to adjourn the meeting.  John F. seconded the motion.

Meeting adjourned at 8:15 pm.
