President, Stephen Phillips called the meeting to order on the above date and time, then, proceeded to follow the order of business.

 

Secretary, Palmira Miller read the minutes from the previous meeting held November 25, 2008.  Carol moved that the minutes be approved as read and placed on file, seconded by Heidi, all voted in favor.

 

Treasurer, Steve Masakowski read and submitted the financial report.

Tom made a motion to accept the report as read and placed on file, seconded by Mary Margaret, all voted in favor.

 

Bills and Correspondence

Two donors were sent thank you cards and one Christmas card was recieved. 

 

2nd Vice President, Tom Kashatus reports:

1.     In 2008 the organization had 142 members.

2.     New memberships have been received as follows:

a)       Rose Ann Briggs, Barbara Yacubosky, John Sokoloski, and Elizabeth Matzoni sponsored by Tom.

b)       Paul, Andrea, Mary and Julianna Selecky sponsored by Heidi.

3.     Reference of last nights Commissioners meeting.

a)       A letter requesting public records were submitted to the Commissioners.

b)       Permission to use the recycling center to hold the 2009 Big Junk Drop Off for one of The Great American Clean up Events scheduled in the spring:

a.        The Commissioners approved the use of the recycling center, providing there is no cost to the township.

c)       Murph was given permission to use the rec park for December 27th, winter fun event.

d)       Bill asked the commissioners again to submit an article or ad in the newsletter.

e)       The Commissioners voted Murph to the Township Recreation Board.

f)        John Farrell was appointed to a 5 year term on the Sewer Authority.

4.     The firemen will prepare and host a public ice skating event at 3 legged when whether permits.

5.     Tom introduced Rich Novak and Frank Vandermark who are here to speak about the Drug Task Force.

 

Publicist, Bill Hourigan, reports on the Winter Newsletter:

1.     Stories are needed.  Murph is working on ads.  Would like to publish 12 page and print 900 copies.

 

Fundraising, Heidi reports:

1.     The calendar sale is steady and going well.

2.     The 3rd shipment of the high school miniatures have not yet arrived.

3.     The DVD’s will be ready on the 14th.

 

No Trustees Report

Unfinished Business

1.     Members discussed joining the Northeastern PA Nonprofit & Community Assistance Center (NCAC) who provides assistance and support to nonprofit and community organizations.

Carol made a motion to join the NCAC with an annual membership fee of $35, seconded by John, all voted in favor.  Murph will do the follow up.

 

New Business

1.    Frank Vandermark discussed what the GNA Drug Task Force represents and how we can help.  They provide education, prevention, intervention, and recovery of drugs and alcohol for all middle school children and adults.  Meetings are the 2nd Wednesday, 7pm at the Stickney Building, 24 S. Prospect St., Nanticoke.  Events for 18 and older are held Saturday nights.  Information for meetings and fundraiser will be put on our website.

 

Good of the Order

1.     Our next meeting is January 13th.

 

Carol made a motion to adjourn the meeting; seconded by Carolyn, all voted in favor.

Meeting adjourned at 7:36 PM.
