Attendees:
President, Stephen Phillips called the meeting to order on the above date and time, then, proceeded to follow the order of business.
Secretary, Palmira Miller read the minutes from the previous meeting held December 9, 2008. Carol moved that the minutes be approved as read and placed on file, seconded by Bill, all voted in favor.
Treasurer, Steve Masakowski read and submitted the monthly financial report and the 2008 Fall Festival income and expense report. Heidi made a motion to accept the report as read and placed on file, seconded by Paul, all voted in favor.
Bills received 1. $3.25 to Newport Township for copies of the December Township minutes and Department Reports. 2. $593.18 to CPS for the printing of the Fall Newsletter. Bill made a motion to pay the above bills, seconded by Carol, all voted in favor.
Correspondence 1. Steve M read a letter received from Murph Fletcher, resigning as Chairman of the Recreation Committee. 2. Tom announced the Shickshinny Historical Society will host a spaghetti dinner January 17th. A link will be put on the website. 3. A Soup Supper will be held March 1st by Boy Scout Troop 430 and Cub Scout Troop 430. Heidi made a motion to donate $50 toward this event, seconded by Carolyn, all voted in favor. 4. The Nanticoke Historical Society newsletter was passed around.
Stephen Phillips addressed and members discussed the following: 1. Arney Morucci, Township Treasurer, passed away. Paul made a motion to donate $100 to the Newport Township Little League Association in his memory, seconded by Heidi, all voted in favor. 2. Our Annual meeting will take place in two (2) weeks to elect officers. 3. Members were asked to come back in 2 weeks with project ideas. Some mentioned were speakers, recreational activities for all ages, changing meetings to one executive session or work session with committee heads in attendance, the following for all members. Paul submitted project ideas to be discussed at the next meeting.
2nd Vice President, Tom Kashatus reports: 1. New memberships have been received as follows: a) Marie Cardone sponsored by Tom. b) Debbie Prokop sponsored by Palmira. Tom made a motion to issue Tom Goliash a 2009 complimentary membership for providing the equipment used in manufacturing the DVD’s seconded by Carol, all voted in favor.
Publicist, Bill Hourigan, reports and members discussed the following: 1. Publishing next year’s winter newsletter earlier in December. 2. Adding extra pages with a synopsis of issues in the Township. 3. A sales person is needed to bring in advertisers. 4. Distribution of the newsletter. Bill will look into the purchase of containers to hold Newsletters.
Fundraising, Heidi reports: 1. Calendars - 15 are left to sell. 2. High school miniatures - half of the 3rd shipment are sold. 3. DVD’s - 30 of the 200 are left to sell. Extras were produced and people who contributed to the making of the DVD will be issued complimentary copies. John Goliash will receive a complimentary 2009 Membership for production. Copies will be donated to the local libraries and Historical Society. Carolyn made a motion to purchase plastic cases, seconded by Tom, all voted in favor. Over $130 is left in the DVD budget. 4. Paul and Heidi will investigate the options of developing a 2nd DVD.
Heidi made a motion to issue the Variety Stop a free ad in the spring newsletter for there help in selling our fundraisers, seconded by Carol, all voted in favor.
Palmira made a motion to approve the purchase of 24 EZ grabbers at a price of $151.20, seconded by Tom, all voted in favor.
Stephen P asked for a volunteer to chair next years fall festival, Carolyn will be stepping down.
No Trustees Report Unfinished Business 1. As new member of the NCAC, Tom asked and members discussed the services they can provide to our organization.
New Business Tom addressed and members discussed junior membership, holding summer Olympics, and getting involved with Coal Street Park.
Bill made a motion to adjourn the meeting; seconded by Palmira, all voted in favor. Meeting adjourned at 8:50 PM.
