President Stephen Phillips called the meeting to order on the above date and time.  He then proceeded to follow the order of business.

 

Secretary Palmira Miller being absent, John Jarecki read the minutes from the previous meeting held December 11, 2007.  John Jarecki corrected an error under Publicity: John Jarecki sent meeting announcements to both newspapers.  Carolyn moved that the minutes be approved as amended and placed on file.  Bill seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.

 

Treasurer, Steve Masakowski read and presented the treasurers report.

·   The organization has a total of $5,902.51 in the General Fund, and $100 in petty cash.

·   The organization has 28 paid and complimentary 2008 memberships.

Mary Margaret made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report as presented and placed on file.  Carol seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.

 

Bills or correspondence:

John Jarecki submitted a bill for $466.40 for newsletter printing.

 

No 1st Vice President report.

 

The 2nd Vice President, Tom Kashatus reports:

·         I am collecting e-mail address of people to send copies of the newsletter to.

·         Commissioner Michael Roke volunteered to give the Community Organization a copy of the Building code      enforcement report to put on our web site.

·         Bob Hughes of Federal Mine Reclamation is interested in extracting iron oxide from the mine water in Newport Lake for use in paint pigment.

·         The trustees of the Newport Cemetery asked me to request that the Township improve the road leading to the cemetery. 

 

Publicity Chairman, John Jarecki reports:

·         Meeting announcements were sent to both newspapers.

·         The Winter Newsletter was printed and distributed on time.

·         The newsletter printing cost was $466.40

·         Members discussed ways to improve the newsletter.

 

Committee Reports:

·         Heidi reported that we have sold 96 or 100 calendars and that Paul has a prototype of next years calendar.

·         Bill told the Omega Bank that we are still interested in acquiring the Glen Lyon Bank.

New Business:

·         Steve Phillips said that, as a memorial for Joseph Hitzner, we could establish an award to a high school student involved in community service.

·         He also said he is working on arranging for more speakers in our speaker series.

·         Tom said that we should have a Community Organization board meeting to make plans for bringing up important issues at Commissioners’ meetings.
