President, Stephen Phillips, called the meeting to order on the above date and time.  He then proceeded to follow the order of business.

 

Secretary, Palmira Miller read the minutes from the previous meeting held May 27, 2008.  Heidi moved that the minutes be approved as read and placed on file.  Bill seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.

 

Treasurer, Steve Masakowski read and presented the treasurers report.

1.        The organization has a total of $7,408.08 in the FNCB checking and cash accounts.

2.        The income received from the recycling program this year was $652 from metal and $160 from cans.

3.        To date, the Organization generated income of $4,070.23 expenses totaled $3,153.65.  Income exceeds total by $916.58.

Carolyn made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report as read and placed on file.  Sia seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.

 

Bills or Correspondence

1.        The Organization paid Erie Insurance $478 for liability insurance and $744 for board insurance.

2.        Mary Margaret submitted a bill for summer fun event expenses of $175.78.

3.        A $40 bill was submitted for gravel which was placed around the memorial tree at the rec park.

Carolyn made a motion to pay the bills, seconded by Sia, all voted in favor.

 

In the absents of Vice President Russ Sager, 2nd Vice President, Tom Kashatus reports:

1.        The organization has 115 members.

2.        Emails and letters will be sent to inform all members that a vote on July 8th will be taken to amend our by-laws to include two policies one for Harassment and one for Discrimination.

3.        Recycling donations were accepted.  $100 from Heidi and $45 from Mrs. Roke.

4.        The recycling event is June 21st, Bill will drive my truck filled with electronics.  If needed, Paul offered the use of his truck.

5.        Two months ago, at a public meeting, I presented our Township Commissioners with a written complaint on the property at 44 Coal Street.  Commissioners continue to respond with a song and dance while more properties become an eyesore.  This property and many more are not being addressed.

·    Members discussed action we can take to resolve these issues and hold our elected officials accountable.

 

Publicity Chairman, Bill Hourigan reports:

1.        The Summer Newsletter should be out on June 21st.

 

Committee Reports:

Recreation, Mary Margaret reports the first summer fun event is set for June 18th at Holy Child Grove.

Heidi reports on fundraisers,

1)       The picture part of the DVD is complete and handed to Palmira to add a sound track.  Copy rights are needed for the music, local artists will be asked to participate.

2)       The sample calendar and wooden miniature was passed around for member’s comments and approval.

Fall Festival Chairperson, Carolyn reports the festival date as October 11th, plans are underway as last year.

1.        A presentation about drugs will be scheduled for the children.

2.        Attorney Kule would like to educate the parents about juvenile court and procedures.

 

No Trustees Report

 

Unfinished Business

Work around the memorial tree at the Rec Park is complete.  The tree was attacked by caterpillars but looks okay.

 

New Business

1.        Jared Bartusek presented to members his Eagle Scout project to build a memorial walk at the Wanamie Recreation Park.  He is dedicating this walk to Jose Hitzner for his dedication to our township.  Cost per brick is $35 and $5 for a certificate (optional).  Orders are due by July 7th, phone # to order is 736-6879 or go to the website at jarbart1992@yahoo.com.  All proceeds will go to the park for beautification.  He is also painting pavilions, playground equipment, grills, and adding more gravel.  The members present approved to support Jared’s effort in this endeavor.

2.        Chris Kule discussed with member the growth of the Township, future development, bringing in investors, and steps we can take to achieve these goals.  A task force will be developed and managed by Chris.

 

Good of the Order

1.        Nanticoke Historical Society meets the last Thursday of each month at the Parsonage West Presbyterian Church on E Main Street in Nanticoke.

2.        Commissioners work session is on the 18th at 5pm.

 

Carolyn made a motion to adjourn the meeting; seconded by Mary Margaret, all voted in favor.

Meeting adjourned at 8:35.
