Attendees:
President, Stephen Phillips called the meeting to order on the above date and time.
Secretary, Palmira Miller introduced Amos Vanderhoff and presented him with Waste Reduction & Recycling Centers Five Year Participation Award for donating dumpsters over the past five years during our Great American Cleanup Events.
Palmira read the minutes from the previous meeting of May 26, 2009. Carol made a motion to accept the minutes as read and placed on file, seconded by Stefanie, all voted in favor.
Treasurer, Steve Masakowski read and presented the treasurers report. Carolyn made a motion to accept the treasurers report as read and placed on file, seconded by Heidi, all voted in favor.
Bills and Correspondence: 1. A letter was received from Corpus Christi Church requesting a donation to help with the cost for 90 children from all denominations to attend the summers Bible School. After a brief discussion, Carol made a motion to donate $50, seconded by Mary Margaret, Kami asked to amend this motion to $100, both parties agreed with all members voting in favor.
1st Vice President, Russ Sager reports: 1. The memorial plaque for our deceased members was hung in the Knights of Columbus Hall.
2nd Vice President, Tom Kashatus reports: 1. 2009 membership is at 134. a) Tom made a motion to accept John & Nancy Kazmierski as new members, sponsored by Linda Conner, seconded by Carolyn, all voted in favor b) Tom sponsored and made a motion to accept Wanda Stec as a new member, seconded by Russ, all voted in favor. c) Palmira sponsored and made two separate motions, the first to accept Cheryl Pelava, the second motion to accept Mike Chepolis as new members, Tom seconded both motions, all voted in favor. 2. The season is over for the baseball team we sponsored, they are now playing all star games. 3. A reminder to cut off all cords before discarding appliance. Cords can be recycled.
Committee Reports: Palmira Miller 1. Members discussed highway cleanup. July 25th, at 8am, two groups of volunteers will meet, one group at St Nicholas parking lot, Glen Lyon, the second at the Municipal building, Wanamie. Supplies will be provided. 2. A reminder to all members who visit or go past the Rec Park to stop and clean around the memorial tree. 3. Julia from the Pennsylvania Environmental Council chose to cleanup the tire pit in Wanamie. The contractor bids for the appliance pit and Alden Mountain ran over $30,000. $6 to $7,000 in funds may be available at the end of the summer to do another volunteer cleanup. 4. On July 17th The Guardian will have a block party ending with a fire work display. 5. If you plan to attend the NCAC workshop for finding the funding and grant writing basics on July 9th at the Northeastern PA Alliance make sure you register. Mary Margaret Kashatus 1. Eight seats are available for the baseball game on August 7th. Bill Hourigan 1. The Summer Newsletter is at the printers and on the website. Heidi Selecky 1. The 2nd design of the coal breaker miniature was passed around for members input. 2. The DVD’s are now in stock, postcards were sent, and orders are being filled. 3. Work on the 2nd DVD continues with travels to area colleges, looking through yearbooks. Kami Hemminger 1. The next summer fun event is June 30th.
Fall Festival 1. Carolyn Phyllips will have a back yard meeting June 30th, 7pm, all are asked to attend.
New Business 1. Kami asked for a donation on behalf of the Nanticoke Mini Trojan Cheerleaders to cover the cost of one uniform. Carolyn made that motion to donate $130, seconded by Carol, with members voting in favor.
Good of the Order 1. Francis asked what is being done about the old theater building on E. Main St. Glen Lyon now that the roof collapsed. This should be addressed to the commissioners at their meeting.
Stef made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Paul seconded the motion, with all voting in favor.
