President, Stephen Phillips called the meeting to order on the above date and time.

Secretary, Palmira Miller read the minutes from the previous meeting held June 12, 2007.  Several corrections were made under the 2nd Vice Presidents report, bullets 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 10, and 11.  Under Unfinished Business the words “and Tony” will be removed.  Heidi moved that the minutes be approved as corrected and placed on file.  Sia seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.

In the absence of Treasurer, Steve Masakowski, Carolyn Phillips read and presented the treasurers report.

·          The organization has a total of $4,733.16 in the General Fund, $56.58 petty cash, and $100.00 unclaimed cash prize.  Expenses exceed income by $552.84.

·          The organization has 81 paid 2007 members.

Carol made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report as presented and placed on file.  Murph seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.

No Bills or Communications

The 1st Vice President, Russ Sager reports:

·          No word from the IRS on the 501c3.  An email was sent to Attorney Kule – awaiting a response.

The 2nd Vice President, Tom Kashatus reports:

·          Tom introduced three teenage boys who are interested in building a skate park at the Coal Street Playground, Glen Lyon.  Chris Holt spoke to members of their willingness to build this park and raise funds to support it.  They have 99 signatures in support of the skate park.  Their next step is to present this to the Commissioners at the July 2nd meeting.

·          Carol has not heard from Commissioner Wilkes on the burnt house next to her.  Mr. Wilkes stated that the Insurance money cannot be put in escrow until the insurance claim is settled.  In the mean time the burnt out house stands as is.

·          Sherry Long from the Times Leader would like to write an article on the recreation parks in Newport Township. – Is anyone available to go around with her.

Publicity Chairman, John Jarecki reports:

1.        Meeting announcement was sent to both papers – it was seen in the Citizens Voice not the Times Leader.

2.        The Sumer Newsletter was on schedule.  13 ads were purchased totaling $325, with one free ad.  The printing cost was $373.12.  Staples cannot honor our original contract but can give us a 10% discount.

3.        Pictures from the forum and cleanup were passed around.

Committee Reports:

·          On Recreation Murph reports the summer fun event started today with 19 participants.  It is not only a summer fun event but a community event.  The ambulance and crew were on hand for support.  Sia and Carolyn assisted.  Mary Margaret was missed and I will be happy to have her back.  It was a good day.  Channel 16 ran the event on the morning bulletin board.  Notices were sent to both newspapers.  Commissioner Vishnefski stated at the worksession the restrooms are up and running, and will be open.  They were not.

o      The restrooms were locked.  The boy’s room was plugged solid.  No one was in the office at 8:30 AM for keys.

·          On the Fall Festival, Carolyn announced the vendors and crafters are being called and a short meeting will be held after this one.

No Trustee Report

No Unfinished Business

New Business:

·          Stephen P. cannot make the July 10th meeting.

·          On July 24th, members will conduct a mini strategic planning session as they have for the past 4 years, to develop the annual 5 point plan for 2007.

·          In 2002 a bill was passed making it illegal to purchase tobacco if you are under 18, but it is not illegal to use or possess it.

·          Nanticoke is reforming their recreation board.  They need 2 school board members, Vandermark may be one.

·          Would our organization consider hiring a consultant, Greg Gulick, for funding for the parks. - First we need our 501c3.
