President Stephen Phillips, called the meeting to order on the above date and time.  He then proceeded to follow the order of business.

 Secretary, Palmira Miller read the minutes from January 22, 2008 annual meeting.  Steph moved that the minutes be approved as read and placed on file.  Heidi seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.

Palmira read the minutes from the previous meeting held January 22, 2008.  Carol; moved that the minutes be approved as read and placed on file.  Steph seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.

 Treasurer, Steve Masakowski read and presented the treasurers report.

1.        The organization has a total of $5,169.75 in the General Fund, $1500 checking reserve, $75 summer program reserve, and $100 petty cash.

2.        To date, the Organization generated income of $1,366, expenses totaled $1,007.75.  Income exceeds total by $358.25.

3.        Membership Chairman, Tom Kashatus, will provide the membership reports from here on.

Mary Margaret made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report as presented and placed on file.  Joan seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.

 Bills or Correspondence:

1.        Our South Valley Chamber of Commerce membership renewal fee of $50.00 is due.

Tom made a motion to renew this membership and we are guaranteed to be listed on the 2008 calendar placemats.  Bill seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.

2.        We received a donation request from Kyle Gruber, on behalf of the Junior Leadership Community Service in Wilkes-Barre to help sponsor A Day for the Disabled on May 21st at the CYC. 

o      Tom will speak to Kyle before members decide.

 No 1st Vice Presidents Report

 The 2nd Vice President, Tom Kashatus Reports:

1.        We are half way where we were last year on memberships and picking up more.  Membership envelopes were developed and being distributed for new and renewal memberships.

2.        Commissioner Roke has opened the door to communication for this organization and the residents of the Township.  He has posted a personal message on the Code Enforcement page on www.newporttownship.com which includes an email address directly to him.  Members discussed this positive position he is taking to improve the quality of life in the Township.

3.        An email address database is being developed.  Addresses are needed.  Anyone interested in receive messages by email should submit their address.

4.        May 10th the firemen are having a spaghetti supper at St. Mary’s Church.

5.        April 6th the Ambulance will hold a breakfast at St. Mary’s Church.

6.        Members discussed the plans Catholic Services have to renovate St. Stanislaus Orphanage.

 Publicity Chairman, Bill Hourigan reports:

1.        Meeting announcement was not submitted to the newspapers.

2.        The Newsletter will have a different look with a number of articles and an insert listing church services & community meetings.  Things to look at will be printing costs and the size & price for ads.  The Spring Newsletter may be delayed a few days.

 Committee Reports:

Recreation Chairman, Murph reports:

1.        We are seeking donations for the Recreation Fund.  An organization will match our funds up to $500.

2.        The following is being looked into:  event signs, liability insurance for transportation, and location for events.

3.        At the last Commissioners meeting I asked to be considered as the replacement for the person who is resigning from the Recreation Committee.

 Heidi reports on fund raising projects:

1.        A plan was submitted and discussed to sell wooden plaques.

Sia made a motion to authorize Heidi to move forward with this project, seconded by Mary Jo, all voted in favor.

2.        John Forgach, Paul and I have been collecting old pictures of the Township with plans to make a picture CD.  Members discussed and suggested asking LCCC students help in putting this together as a school project.

Stef made a motion to move forward with the picture CD of the Township, seconded by Murph, all voted in favor.

3.        John Forgach is in the hospital and a get well card will be sent.

 The Great American Cleanup, Palmira reports:

1.        April 19th will be the cleanup along the Main Streets throughout the Township.  Volunteers are needed.

2.        Members discussed sponsoring the Big Junk Drop Off.  The Township can not burn items as they have in the past.  Palmira will ask the Commissioners at the next work session if we should hold this event. 

3.        The sign to adopt a highway is still not up.  Another call will be made.

 No Trustee Report

 Unfinished Business

1.        Joe Maloney has picked the winners for the 2007 Christmas contest.

 New Business:

1.        The Republican Party is looking for 2 people from each ward interested in becoming a member on the Republican Committee.  If anyone is interested, contact Lori Vandermark.

 Carolyn made a motion to adjourn the meeting; seconded by Mary Jo, all voted in favor.
