 The 1st Vice President, Russ Sager called the meeting to order, in the absence of Stephen, on the above time and date.

 

Tom read the minutes, in the absence of Palmira, from the previous meeting held February 27, 2007.

A motion was made by Stephanie to approve the minutes as read and placed on file.  Seconded by Carol M.

 

Tom read the treasurer’s report, in the absence of Steve M.  A motion was made by Joan to accept the treasurer’s report as presented and placed on file.  Seconded by Jimmy Caley.

 

The 1st Vice President, Russ Sager reported on the status of the 501c3.  (Russ has details)

 

The 2nd Vice President, Tom announced:

1.        The need for help at the Fireman’s Bike Run on August 25th.

2.        The potential for a debate with local candidates for the primary election.

3.        Membership – Tom presented copies of a letter to approach interested new members, a letter to former members, and a post card reminder to members who have not paid 2007 dues yet.

 

Committee Reports:

·         Mary Margaret and Murph updated Summer Fun 2007 information.  (See Attached)

·         Joe Maloney announced that no Christmas decoration winners were in attendance.  Photos have been taken and will appear in the Spring Newsletter.

 

Publicity Chairman, John Jarecki reports:

1.        Announcements of this meeting were sent to the Citizens' Voice and Times Leader.  The Times Leader ran an announcement.

2.        The Spring Newsletter is on schedule – going to printer March 15th, with distribution set for March 18th

$275 for ads has been collected – one more $25 to go.

 

Tom reminded us that the Community Organization is not political- the political action committee, Renew Newport, is separate from the Community Organization.

 

No Trustees report

 

Old Business

·         Off Set Paperback is being considered.  Looking for black and white print result..

·         Russ thanked the Organization on behalf of the Knights of Columbus for recent donation.

·         Tom reported that the breathalyzer for the Police Department will cost between 400 and 450 dollars, a more sophisticated version.  Tom plans to ask at the Work Session if the Township will help fund.  The Community Organization has donated $150 and Crime Watch $150.

 

New Business

·         The Police Blotter issue was discussed – needs more support at Township meetings.

·         Events of recent Crime Watch meeting were discussed.

·         Need to improve the Community policy of speaking at public meetings.

·         Carol asked if a letter was sent to Bruce with regard to the fire property at 270-271 Miner Ave. Needs to ask at Township Meeting.

·         Joan suggested that the dog ordinance policy be put in the newspapers as a reminder.

·         Tom reported that there is a petition to the Commissioners circulating to do something about the property at 44(?) Coal St.

 

Steph made a motion to adjourn the meeting; seconded by Bill.

Meeting adjourned at 7:15 pm.
