Attendees:
President, Stephen Phillips called the meeting to order on the above date and time then proceeded to follow the order of business.
Secretary, Palmira Miller read the minutes from the previous meeting held February 28, 2006. The minutes were amended to read Hrobacks ad will run again with the correct phone #735-2004. Faye moved that the minutes be approved as amended and placed on file. Tony seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.
Treasurer, Steve Masakowski could not attend this meeting. No report submitted.
No Bills or Communications to report.
The 1st Vice President, Russ Sager could not attend this meeting. No report submitted.
The 2nd Vice President, Tom Kashatus reported: · The following three (3) owners signed off for the demolition program. o 17-19 Vine St., Glen Lyon o 110 W Main St, VFW, Glen Lyon o 241 W. Kirmar Ave, Alden The following questions/comments were made about the demolition program. o What is the next step and will the township place a lien on properties that are torn down. o Has the township charged the homeowners for cleaning of these properties? o The Newport Authority will pay the soft costs of the demolition program. · Members discussed the minutes from the Commissioner’s Township meetings. o Publishing minutes on the website. o The Township Manager not allowing Commissioner Kashatus a signed copy. Joe made a motion to purchase a tape recorder to record the commissioners meetings. Joe amended the motion to purchase a tape recorder not to exceed $100.00. Carol seconded the motion as amended with all members present voting in the affirmative. Joe will purchase a tape recorder then submit the bill to Steve M. for payment. · A number of vacant buildings in the Township are not secure. Tom will contact Faye’s brother Bob, an employee at Sears Warehouse to ask if Sears can donate plywood to secure the unsafe vacant buildings. · 100 tires were dumped in back of Arch Street. Susquehanna Coal Company will discard the tires. Murph brought up a good point to check the serial #’s on the tires to see who purchased them. It may lead to the person(s) who dumped them. · The Township received a $5,000.00 Grant to purchase surveillance cameras. · The Glen Lyon Crime Watch meets the 2nd Thursday of each month at 7:00pm in the Italian Club.
Publicity Chairman, John Jarecki reports: 1. Meeting announcements were published on Sunday in the Times Leader. 2. The Spring Newsletter is on schedule o It will go to print on the 16th and be distributed on the 20th. o There is a problem with payment of ads. This will be fixed in the future.
Committee Report: · Carolyn reported, in order to print the recipe book it should contain 200 to 250 recipes. · Stephen P. asked who will Chair the Fall Festival. Palmira made a motion to appoint Carolyn. Mary Jo 2nd the motion. By a unanimous consent of the group Carolyn will Chair the Festival. · Heidi reported about the license plate covers. It will be a red plate with black lettering.
Trustees, no report:
Old Business · Earth Conservancy is planting mature trees on the Mountain Bike Hiking Trail. · Volunteers are needed April 22nd for The Great American Cleanup.
New Business Members discussed activities or services we may wish to provide: · Al suggested a database with profiles of groups and activities in the area. o Palmira has been logging information as it comes in. · Murph can teach paper making by hand or robotics. · Classes for kids on bike safety or jumping rope. · Having a student for the summer to inter at the Rec Park. · Putting together an activity map of the town and locations of stores.
Our next scheduled meeting is March 28, 2006 at 6:30 PM, Knights of Columbus in Glen Lyon. Carolyn made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Faye seconded the motion with all members voting in the affirmative.
