Attendees:
President, Stephen Phillips called the meeting to order on the above date and time, and then proceeded to follow the agenda set on November 10th.
Secretary, Palmira Miller read the minutes from the previous meeting of October 27, 2009. Tom made a motion to accept the minutes as read and placed on file, seconded by Carol, all voted in favor.
Treasurer, Steve Masakowski read and presented the treasurers report. Heidi made a motion to accept the treasurers report as read and placed on file, seconded by Sia, all voted in favor. Steve M. made a motion to close out the 2009 Fall Festival Reserve Balance of $363.21 with the intention to reestablish the reserve in January 2010, seconded by Bill, all voted in favor. Bills & Correspondence 1. Mill Memorial Library sent a thank you letter and posted our donation in the Library. 2. All bills totaling $976.96 were approved and paid.
Nominating Committee, Tom Kashatus reports: 1. The nominating committee met and came up with a slate of candidates for office. · President – Tom Kashatus · 1st Vice President – Palmira Miller · 2nd Vice President – Bill Hourigan · Treasurer – Francis Zaleski · Perspective candidates for secretary are Linda Conner, John Jarecki 2. Russ, Tom, and Palmira will meet to amend the by-laws. · John Jarecki would like flexibility in the meeting dates. 3. By-Laws will be changed at the next scheduled meeting set on the 4th Tuesday of January, followed by the annual meeting which new officers will be elected.
2nd Vice President, Tom Kashatus reports: 1. 2009 membership is at 150. $5 dues for 2010 are being accepted. · Tom made a motion to accept Charlotte Santry as a new member, seconded by Mary Margaret, all voted in favor. · Tom made a motion to accept Carol Kuhn as a new member, seconded by Carol M., all voted in favor. 2. Let me know who can help to remove scrap metal at 61 W. Union St. Nanticoke 3. A letter was submitted September 7th to the Township Commissioners requesting a list of information to be placed in the public folder, besides the agenda. No response was received; another letter will be submitted to the Township Commissioners. 4. Members discussed issues that will be brought to the Commissioners attention at their next board meeting. · Palmira requested and was refused information from the Township’s Open Records Officer, Richard Zika on high grass & weeds and derelict properties. An appeal was sent to Harrisburg, Docket #AP 2009-0827 Miller v. Newport Township, their final determination granted access to records. This should become the community organizations issue. · Publishing the Township Official Newsletter on our website. 5. Members of our organization should continue involvement with other organizations and encourage them to write and submit articles for the newsletter. 6. Members discussed the purchase of a radio for the police SUV. Tom made a motion to pay half the cost, not to exceed $250, in conjunction with the Crime Watch members, to purchase the radio, seconded by Francis, all voted in favor.
Committee Reports Bill Hourigan 1. Members are asked to send in articles for the newsletter by next week. 2. Francis has a list of 47 businesses. Members discussed and committed to solicit ads and collect money from 2 or 3 businesses for each newsletter. 3. Tom made a motion to set up an editorial committee, comprised of the Board of Directors, the President, 1st VP, 2nd VP, Secretary, and one member to be elected at large, seconded by Carol, all voted in favor. Heidi Selecky 1. Second DVD is complete, 400 copies are being produced and ready for sale next week. Thank you for the support. 2. 70 to 80 Calendars are sold. 60 more Coal Breaker miniatures were ordered. 3. The Rec board met with 3 members. · Murph Fletcher and Dave Buchinski submitted letters of intent to the Commissioners to be placed on the Rec board committee. · Another invitation was given to members of the Rec board to submit articles for our newsletter. 4. Joe Brady will be contacted to offer him space in the newsletter to request donations for his Eagle Scout Project. John Jarecki 1. Presented an overview on website statistics. · We are up 400 visitors per month from last year. · In October, we exceeded the bandwidth and purchased more to accommodate the visitors. · Pages visited most often was, the Fall Newsletter, NTCO minutes, and the Township Commissioners. · Half of our visitors are from outside the area. Tom stated how crucial this site is and complimented John on the website statistic report. Palmira Miller 1. This month the Pennsylvania Environmental Council cleaned up 2 illegal dumpsites, marked in April as contractor sites on Alden Mountain and the Appliance Pit next to the Rock Quarry in Glen Lyon with funds from DEP and USDA. Three volunteer cleanups were organized for cleanup on Kreiger Rd, Wanamie, Weinick Park, Glen Lyon, and along Forge Creek and Penobscot Trail, Alden. 2. At the Commissioners work-session in October, I asked the board for the office email address. Things got out of hand and a Police Officer was brought in. I will ask again at the Commissioners meeting in November. 3. The Fire Dept and Boy Scouts are sponsoring a Thanksgiving Day dinner for shut-ins. Carol Marcincavage 1. Reports on how helpful the die-cut machine and monetary donation was for the Children’s program at the Mill Memorial Library. All the donors are posted in the library.
