Attendees:
In the absents of President Stephen Phillips, 1st Vice President, Russ Sager, called the meeting to order on the above date and time, then proceeded to follow the order of business.
Secretary, Palmira Miller read the minutes from the previous meeting held October 9, 2007. Carolyn moved that the minutes be approved as read and placed on file. Murph seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.
In the absents of Treasurer Steve Masakowski, Palmira read the treasurers report. · The organization has a total of $5,788.51 in the General Fund, $100.00 petty cash. Income exceeds expenses by $500.93. · The organization has 99 paid and complimentary 2007 memberships. Renewal 2008 memberships are now being accepted. · No bills or correspondence. Carol made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report as presented and placed on file. Mary Margaret seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.
Communications, Russ received information from the Pepsi-Cola bottling company offering grants. He will review the documentation and report in detail at out next meeting.
The 2nd Vice President, Tom Kashatus reports: · The recycling of aluminum cans may earn us $500 a year and he will continue collecting cans to recycle.
Publicity Chairman, John Jarecki reports: 1. Meeting announcement were seen in the Citizens Voice and the Times Leader. 2. Two articles were sent to both papers. Toys for Tots Presentation and Plaque to Attorney Kule. 3. Volunteers filled the jobs needed to continue with the Newsletter. 4. Members discussed the publication of the Winter Newsletter. o Add a flyer thanking patrons for participating in the Fall Festival. o Adding a membership article to the 800 free Newsletters distributed quarterly.
Committee Reports: · Murph reports nothing new but still contemplating holding summer Olympics in 2009 and will make a decision soon. Tom commented we may need other organizations to help. · Carolyn wrapped up this years fall festival. Committee members met and discussed plans for next year. · Palmira received PA Clean Ways Illegal Dump Survey Report listing twenty (20) sites in Newport Township with seventeen (17) on Earth Conservancy land in Alden. This survey is not accurate. Many sites were overlooked. A call will go out to the PA Environmental Council looking for grant money for cleanups. · Heidi reports two (2) calendars and six (6) license plate covers sold.
No Trustee Report
Unfinished Business 1. Palmira read and submitted a report from September 25th’s forum. Heidi moved to approve the report as read and placed on file seconded by Carol, all voted in favor. Murph added, as a result of the forum, he was invited next Tuesday to go with the Fish and Game Commission’s Biology group and Mike Dziak, to investigate the Natural Brook Trout in Wanamie. 2. A sympathy card from the Community Organization will be sent to Faye on the passing of her Mom.
New Business: · Our organization is coordinating two (2) trips. Please sign up if you are interested. 1. A tour of the Power Plant in Berwick. 2. A bus trip to New York City. You will be on your own for the day. · The Time Leader has an offer, if you buy a year subscription for $100, they will donate $25 back to your organization. · Members discussed adding a question and answer section in the Newsletter to address the questions received by John Jarecki.
Good of the Order: Commissioner’s meeting is November 5th.
Carolyn made a motion to adjourn the meeting; seconded by Murph, all voted in favor. Meeting adjourned at 8:03 pm.
