Attendees:
President, Stephen Phillips called the meeting to order on the above date and time then proceeded to follow the order of business.
Secretary, Palmira Miller read the minutes from the previous meeting held October 10, 2006. Jim moved that the minutes be approved and placed on file. Murph seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.
Treasurer, Steve Masakowski read and presented the treasurers report. · The organization has a total of $5,582.45 in the FNCB General Fund and $80.00 petty cash. · Not all receipts and expenses are in from the Fall Festival but we’ve generated about $2,100 this year. A full report comparing previous Fall Festivals will be submitted at the next meeting. · The organization has 88 paid 2006 members. Seventeen (17) more than last year. Bill made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report as presented and placed on file. Linda seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.
Bills and Communications Steven M. reports: · A bill for $270.00 to reimburse Linda Conner for Kevin’s Invoice for T-Shirts.
The 1st Vice President, Russ Sager reports: · October 8th marked the 120th day processing time for our 501c3 application. As a result of calling and checking the website it was determined that there is a back log of applicants and may take longer than anticipated. Russ and Steve M. will continue to check on the status.
The 2nd Vice President, Tom Kashatus brought several issues to the table: · Our Police Officers have been attending the Glen Lyon Crime Watch meetings. They would like to have a breathalyzer and a PC/laptop installed for Car 1. · Members discussed Code Enforcement. The importance of maintaining one’s property as being one of the first steps in deterioration and the Township following through with prosecution of violators. o October 11th, Tom and Steve M. attended hearings at the magistrate’s office for five (5) violators of high grass and weeds. The charges were filed by Richard Zika, Township Manger. Mr. Zika did not show up for the hearings nor send anyone in his place. · It was reported that people living away do care of what is happening around here and are thankful for the website, www.newporttownship.com. · Members discussed the Commissioners reactivating the Recreation Board. In the mean time, Murph will continue to work on recreational activities for the Township. · An informational meeting was held about the local Homestead Act. If we would like more information Mark Yeager, a former Councilman of Nanticoke, can arrange a speaker. · The Police Force Regionalization meeting was held on the 19th at LCCC. Nothing new was discussed. November’s meeting is cancelled.
Publicity Chairman, John Jarecki reports: 1. Meeting announcements were published in the Times Leader and twice in the Citizens Voice. 2. Carol and John took pictures at the Fall Festival and prints were passed around. 3. For the Winter Newsletter, articles are due November 20th. People and health section is still available.
Committee Reports: · Recreation, Murph Fletcher reports: o He’s still waiting on a call from Mr. Grevera about the use of the GNA swimming pool. o The English Tea Party is set for November 5th from 1:30 to 3:30 at the Guardian HealthCare. o The application for Adopt a Highway was given to Palmira to submit to PennDot. · Fall Festival, Carolyn Phillips reports: o Tux and the hay ride was a big hit. o Carolyn thanked everyone in making the festival a success. An article will be published in the newspaper. o Stephen P. would like next year’s chairperson named.
There was no Trustees report.
Unfinished Business · Steve M. has tickets for Thanksgiving Day to sell.
Food for Thought · Members discussed the 2007 election. Three Commissioners, Tom Kashatus, John Wilkes, and Paul Czapracki, are up for re-election. At November 14ths meeting interested citizens will be encouraged to run for the office of Township Commissioner. · Members discussed having there First Annual Dinner Dance for the Newport Township Community Organization.
New Business · At the Fall Festival Tom Dzudam’s asked if we can help his son earn his Eagle Scout. One project is to build a bridge over the swale for the Historical Garden at the Rec Park.
Good of the Organization
The next Commissioners meeting is Monday, November 6th at 6:00 pm. Members are encouraged to attend. November 7th is Election. Our next meeting is November 14, 2006, at 6:30PM, Knights of Columbus, Glen Lyon.
Jim made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Bill seconded the motion. Meeting adjourned at 7:40 pm.
