President, Stephen Phillips, called the meeting to order on the above date and time.  He asked for a moment of silence for our member, Chester Smocharski, who passed away on Monday.  Russ then asked for a moment of silence for our brothers and sisters of 911.

Secretary, Palmira Miller read the minutes from the previous meeting held August 28, 2007.  Tom corrected an error under the 2nd Vice Presidents report #2 first sentence to begin with “Murph and I were”.  Bill moved that the minutes be approved as amended and placed on file.  Russ seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.

Stephen Phillips presented the Ambulance Association with a donation of $200 from our organization for providing services at the summer fun events.  Accepting on behalf of the Ambulance was Joe Nealon and Jared Whittaker.  Joe stated the Chicken barbeque on September 8th was cancelled due to low sales.  They hope to run one in the future.  Anyone who purchased tickets may receive a refund from the seller.

Treasurer, Steve Masakowski read and presented the treasurers report.

·         The organization has a total of $4,713.34 in the General Fund, $100.00 petty cash, and $100.00 unclaimed cash prize.  Expenses exceed income by $529.24.

·         The organization has 88 paid and complimentary 2007 memberships.

Mary Margaret made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report as presented and placed on file.  Sia seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.

Bills or Communications, Steve M reports:

·         No unpaid bills.

·         Thank you letters were sent to those who gave money donations for the Fall Festival.

The 1st Vice President, Russ Sager, no report.

The 2nd Vice President, Tom Kashatus reports:

1.        Mr. Smocharski’s viewing is Thursday.

2.        Complimented Carol on her tactics, without her persistent at the Commissioners Meetings, the demolition and removal of the burnt out house next to her would not be where it is today.

3.        On the burning ban for the Township and the effect it will have next year for the Big Junk Drop Off.  After speaking with Greg Gulick it was suggested our fireman may be able to obtain a special permit for a training session.  Chief Kowalski will be contacted.

Publicity Chairman, John Jarecki reports:

1.        Meeting announcement were in both the Citizens Voice and the Times Leader.

2.        The newsletter is on schedule for September 20th.  Volunteers are needed for all aspects of the newsletter.  Members discussed distribution, delivery door to door at Ridgeview, installation of news boxes, time frame and layout of the newsletter.  We will sit down after this meeting to discuss changes.  An article will be sent to the Times Leader and the Citizen’s Voice listing the locations as to where people can pick up their complimentary copy.  A listing will be posted at Weiss Market and on www.newporttownship.com.  For the next meeting Stephen P. asked John to come up with a list of jobs, volunteers are needed for.

Committee Reports:

·         Murph reported, at the last Commissioners meeting when I asked the Board for approval of the skate board park.  Commissioner Wilkes responded by saying it was all taken care of, he has been working on it for two (2) months.  Commissioner Wilkes would not say what was taken care of or discuss it further, even Commissioner Vishnefski, whose department it is, did not know what he was talking about.  Representative Yudichak’s office was notified of the opposition.

·         Members discussed questions asked at the Commissioners meeting such as the Ethanol Plant.  The Board knew nothing about it.  The next day’s paper headline reads “Construction of Newport Twp. Ethanol plant starts in 60 days.”  Our next meeting on September 25th, at 6:30 at Alden Manor, Mike Dziak from Earth Conservancy will be our guest speaker.  He is a good source of information.  We can take this opportunity to ask questions about the Ethanol Plant.  The Board of Commissioners will be invited and an article will be published in the Newsletter inviting the public.

·         Heidi sold nine (9) license plate frames for a total of $27.

·         The Fall Festival, Carolyn reports:

o     Entertainment will begin at noon with the cheerleaders, 1 to 2 dancers from the David Blight Studio, 2 to 4 The Nameless Band from Front & Center Music.  Thirteen contestants signed up for the Chili cook off contest, judging begins at 11am.  Bob has a call out for antique cars, will take care of the Moon Walk and put the signs out.  Everyone is encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots.  On Friday, October 5th, 10 am, help is needed to set up at the grove.

 No Trustee Report

 No Unfinished Business

 New Business:

1.        Heidi and Paul have been working on a fundraiser calendar for 2008.  The calendar was passed around to members.  Creative Printing can print 50 copies for $7.50 or 100 copies for $6.50.  Heidi made a motion to print a minimum of 100 calendars at a cost of $6.50 with the sale price of $10.00 per calendar.  Bill seconded the motion with all members voting affirmative.  The calendar should be ready to sell at the Fall Festival.

 Good of the Order:

Palmira passed around the 2006 Annual Review booklet recently received from Keep America Beautiful, Inc.  Published in this national booklet are two of our pictures.  One of the Fathers Group who picked up an illegal dump site at the entrance of Glen Lyon and the other of our Officer’s Stephen Phillips and Steve Masakowski pulling tires from the creek along W. Kirmar Ave in Alden.  A call will go out for additional copies.

Carol made a motion to adjourn the meeting; seconded by Murph, all voted in favor.

Meeting adjourned at 7:55 pm.
