President, Stephen Phillips called the meeting to order on the above date and time then proceeded to follow the order of business.

 

Secretary, Palmira Miller read the minutes from the previous meeting held August 22, 2006.  Heidi moved that the minutes be approved as read and placed on file.  Linda seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.

 

Treasurer, Steve Masakowski read and presented the treasurers report.

·         The organization has a total of $2,827.99 in the FNCB General Fund, $400.00 in the Fall Festival Reserve, and $56.06 petty cash.

·         Our expenses for 2006 exceed revenue by $891.48.

·         The organization has eighty-sixty (86) active members or, fifteen (15) more than the same period last year.

Joan made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report as presented and placed on file.  Carolyn seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.

 

Bills and Communications Steven M. reports:

·         Payment of $100.00 to Holy Child Grove balance due for the Fall Festival.

 

The 1st Vice President, Russ Sager submitted his report:

·         Still no word on the 501c3 application, Attorney Chris Kule was on vacation.  Steve M. will check on the status and submit his findings at our next meeting.

 

The 2nd Vice President, Tom Kashatus reported and members discussed the following:

·         The Chili Contest is moving forward.  Details are as follows:

o     Contestants are asked to donate one (1) gallon of chili with no entrance fee.  Chili will be judged for taste, appearance, and consistency.  Winners will receive, 1st prize $25.00 and a blue ribbon, 2nd prize a red ribbon, and 3rd prize a white ribbon.  Heads of our local community groups are being asked to judge the contest.

·         The planning committee is underway with Tom Kashatus as Chairman, Bob Connor Vice Chairman, Jeannine Floryshak Secretary Treasurer, and Bill Hourigan Assistant Secretary Treasurer.  They wish to meet with the Commissioners and the South Valley Chamber of Commerce.

o     The last planning commission for the Township was in 1980.  At that time a new sewer system was installed.  Problems that existed 25 years ago still exist today and need to be addressed.  In order to make change, we need to continue to go to the Commissioners meetings to advocate the projects listed on our five (5) point plan.

 

Publicity Chairman, John Jarecki reports:

1.       Meeting announcements were published in the Times Leader, not in the Citizens Voice.

2.       Pictures were taken for the Chili Contest and the Fall Festival and sent to the Times Leader and Citizens Voice.  The Times Leader published a color picture with article in Sunday’s paper.  Also both papers published pictures and articles on the Summer Fun Events.

3.       The Fall Newsletter will be sent to the printer September 14th and distributed the following week.  Fall Festival Flyers will be inserted in each Newsletter.

Murph Fletcher spoke to Joe Snedeker of Channel 16.  In order to be invited to the back yard morning show you need to convince Joe why your event is special.

  

Committee Reports:

·         License plate frames, Heidi reports:

o        Thank you to Uni-Mart in Sheatown for selling seventeen (17) and are now at a standstill.  They will be pulled out.  Members suggested placing them in restaurants around town.

·         Fall Festival, Carolyn Phillips reports:

o        The Committee will meet tomorrow night.  Gift certificates and donations are coming in.

o        Tarnowski from Glen Lyon Deli was contacted and will sell pizza and cheese steaks.

o        Murph is gathering CD’s for music.

o        Irish has a tractor and looking for a cart for the hayride.

o        Old Country Buffet will send their mascot, The Buzz, from 12:00 to 2:00.

·         Recreation, Murph Fletcher reports:

o        At September’s Board meeting Commissioner Vishnefski announced he has a list of four (4) people he would like on a recreation committee.  At that time, Murph found out he was on that list.  Murph has a lot of ideas of what needs to be done for all the playgrounds and at the next work session would like to discuss a strategy plans and put it on the agenda for the Commissioners October meeting.  A letter will be sent to GNA School Board for the use of the school pool.

o        Plans for the Historical Garden are moving forward.  Murph is comparing prices for block.  It will be in the shape of an eye.  Members discussed funding for this project.  It was suggested to put a plan together and lay it out at the Fall Festival to attract sponsors.

o        An English Tea Party for girls K thru 2nd grade is still pending.

Our next meeting is September 26, 2006, at 6:30PM, Knights of Columbus, Glen Lyon.

 

Carolyn made a motion to adjourn the meeting.  Linda seconded the motion.

Meeting adjourned at 7:45 pm.
