Attendees:
President, Stephen Phillips called the meeting to order on the above date and time. The Power plant tour is Tuesday, September 30th, 2pm. A photo ID and appropriate dress is required. The Fall Festival committee will meet after this meeting. Stephen then turned the meeting over to John Jarecki.
John reviewed and discussed, in length, the roll and purpose of the Community Organization, the small government of the township, how to resolve issues with the elected officials, working together as a community, and ways to end the riff the Commissioners have with the Community Organization. He would also like to find a way to communicate with the Commissioners outside of the monthly Township meetings.
Secretary, Palmira Miller read the minutes from the previous meeting held August 26, 2008. Heidi moved that the minutes be approved as read and placed on file, seconded by Carol, all voted in favor.
Treasurer, Steve Masakowski read and submitted September 9th and August 26th reports: 1. To date the organization has a total of $6,534.75 in the FNCB checking and cash accounts. 2. The income generated from the recycling program this year was $1,184 from metal and $265 from cans. 3. To date, the Organization generated income of $5,995.89 expenses totaled $5,982.64. Income exceeds expenses by $13.25. Mary Margaret made a motion to accept the treasurer’s reports as read and placed on file, seconded by Mary Jo, all voted in favor.
2nd Vice President, Tom Kashatus reports: 1. The price dropped on recycling products but the program is going good. 2. The Memorial Plaque for our deceased members was passed around. The cost was $64 for engraving and name tags. Bill made a motion to display the plaque here at the Knight of Columbus Hall until the new municipal building is built, seconded by Carolyn, all voted in favor, pending formal approval by the Knights. 3. New memberships have been received as follows: a) Frank & Melony Flynn sponsored by Tom Kashatus. b) Brad Kessler sponsored by Teena Wrubel. c) David & Eleanor Guzofsky sponsored by Francis Zaleski. Mary Jo made a motion to accept the new members, seconded by Murph, all voted in favor. 4. In reference to our five (5) point plan on having all ordinances available to the residence of the Municipality. Commissioner Mike Roke is working to achieve this goal to have them published on the website. 5. John Selecky sent a sales promotion, by email, giving a free license plate frame and savings on shipping costs with the purchase of a calendar, a wooden plaque, and a DVD. After a brief discussion it was decided, Tom, hold off forwarding this email to members until all products are available for sale. Bill Hourigan, reports: 1. The Fall Festival article was published in the Times Leader, but not yet in the Citizens Voice. 2. Still working on getting the meeting announcements in both papers. 3. The Fall Newsletter will be published at the end of September.
Recreation 1. Murph reviewed this year’s Summer Fun Program activities and plans for next year. A clip featured on Good Morning America from the last event was shown. An article will run in the Fall Newsletter.
Fundraising, Heidi reports: 1. Items are selling well. Nine (9) of the sixty (60) wooden plaques are left. Tina made a motion to order an additional sixty (60) wooden plaques, seconded by Paul, all voted in favor. 2. The DVD is still in development. Hoping to have it completed for the Fall Festival. 3. Thirty-eight (38) calendars are left. We will wait until the 23rd meeting to decide if more should be ordered.
The Great American Cleanup, Coordinator, Palmira reports: 1. The 2009 event grid is due in October. Suggestions are needed for cleanup, fix-up, or beautification projects we would like to achieve next year between March 1st and May 31st. Bring your ideas to the next meeting. 2. Adopt-a-Highway cleanup is October 18th.
No Trustees Report Unfinished Business 1. On John’s issue to set up a committee to form a communication link with the Commissioners. Tom made a motion for John to be the liaison between the Community Organization and the Commissioners, seconded by Palmira. John declined, the motions withdrawn.
Good of the Order 1. Karen Rejician brought applications for members to attend a Citizen’s Police Academy every Thursday beginning October 2nd ending November 20th in Forty-Fort from 6 to 8. This free program will teach many functions of the PA State Police. Members discussed the recent drug bust in Glen Lyon. It was suggested the Crime Watch Organization Members write an article to be published quarterly in the Newsletters. 2. Mary Margaret stated the Organizations name was put in for a drawing to win President Box Seats at next year’s ball game.
Tom made a motion to adjourn the meeting; seconded by Joanie, all voted in favor. Meeting adjourned at 8:42 PM.
