In the absents of Stephen Phillips, the 1st Vice President, Russ Sager, called the meeting to order on the above date and time then proceeded to follow the order of business.

 

Secretary, Palmira Miller read the minutes from the previous meeting held May 23, 2006.  Bill moved that the minutes be approved as read and placed on file.  Murph seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.

 

Treasurer, Steve Masakowski read and presented the treasurers report.

·         The organization has a total of $3,814.58 in the FNCB General Fund, $113.40 in the Printing Reserve, $150.00 in the Summer Program, and $100.00 petty cash.

·         The organization has seventy-three (73) paid memberships.

Carolyn made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report as presented and placed on file.  Mary Margaret seconded the motion with all members present voting in the affirmative.

 

Bills and Communications, Steve M. reported:

·         $90.58 was paid towards games for the Summer Program.

·         Thank you letters and license plate frames were sent to donors.

·         The Westsider magazine and a brochure from The Wyoming Valley Watershed Coalition was received.

 

The 1st Vice President, Russ Sager reported:

·         No report from Attorney Kule on the 501c3 status.

 

The 2nd Vice President, Tom Kashatus reported and members discussed the following:

·         The Glen Lyon Planning Board had their first meeting.

·         An E-cycling event will be held Saturday at Hanover High School.  Contact Tom if you need assistance.

o     Next month the tire drop off event should be held.  The Township can register to drop off 150 tires of the 300 in the yard.  Members are needed to register for this event.

·         Nothing has been done about the high grass and weeds on about 40 properties.

·         Complaints have increased about Mascaro as far as cans, lids, and garbage dumped and left on the streets by Mascaro workers.

·         The Commissioners work session on the 21st may be cancelled.

 

Publicity Chairman, John Jarecki reports:

1.       Meeting announcement was published in the Times Leader, but not in the Citizens Voice.

2.       Summer Newsletter will print on Thursday, be completed on Friday, and distributed Monday.

o        Linda received ten (10) ads for a total income of $250.00, leaving $88.00 in the budget.

o        800 copies were printed with 8 pages and an insert for the Summer Fun Project.  The cost for printing may be $300.00.

Heidi made a motion for the Community Organization to pay the extra $75.00 to cover the cost of the insert for the newsletter.  Carolyn seconded the motion.  A question on the motion.  It was discussed at previous meetings the newsletter is a service this Organization provides to the community, therefore, will pay all costs of the newsletter regardless of the income it generates.  Motions were rescinded.

  

Committee Reports:

·         Heidi reported the license plate frames were distributed and are selling at the Variety Stop, Texaco, and The Dollar Store.

o     Stephen P presented the Commissioners with complimentary frames at there last meeting.

·         The Summer Fun Project will begin June 26th, Mary Margaret and Murph submitted a report.

o        White Transit will provide free bus service to the children and their chaperone(s) to and from each event.  Schedules are posted.

o        Proctor and Gamble donated 75 cameras.

o        Brian Judge of CVS donated $2.00 coupons on film developing, along with safety items for the children.

o        The Citizens Voice, The Times Leader, WNEP & WBRE TV were contacted.

·         Carolyn reported:

o        No new recipes were submitted for the cookbook.

o        No report on the Fall Festival.

·         Murph reported and members discussed the following:

o     On the Bike Trail, The grass is high and Earth Conservancy stated the Township Commissioners are responsible to cut the grass at the entrance of the trail.

o     PennDOT will be sending a letter to the Women’s Activity Group in reference to adopt a highway.

o     On the Historical Garden.  Murph met Saturday, with Commissioner John Vishnefski to discuss the site and plans for the garden.  It will be planted at the South East end of the rec park opposite the basketball court.  The size will be 25’ long by 12’ to 15’ wide.  Building a stone bridge over the swale was discussed.  John volunteered the use of his back hoe.  A soil sample kit and a name for the garden are needed.  Mary Margaret began a journal.

 

There was no Trustees report.

 

Unfinished Business

·         The Great PA Cleanup Wrap-up Report was put out for review.  Due date is June 23rd.

·         Russ has Ed’s Plaque.  There was no report on Ed and Tony’s memorial.

 

New Business

·         The South Valley Chamber of Commerce will hold a bake sale June 22nd & 23rd.  Contact Julianna Zarzycki. Volunteers are needed on August 13th for a car show.  Contact Jerry Hudak for details.

·         Our next meeting is June 27th, members will prepare the five (5) point plan at that meeting.

 

Old Business

Members agreed to pay for the 200 license plate frames that were misprinted. 

The next Commissioners Meeting is July 3rd at 6:00 pm.

 

Murph made a motion to adjourn the meeting.  Bill seconded the motion with all members voting in the affirmative.

 

Meeting was adjourned at 7:55 pm.
